All this and very little else in this week's episode.

Dec 12, 2017

No episode this week, so enjoy this bonus episode in which Joe takes us through Bob Dylan's Christian years. It only lasted three years and three albums, but his interest in faith began started before 1979 and may still be ongoing.

Dec 5, 2017

In this week's episode Brandi talks about getting matching tattoos with her mom and sister, and in the fellowship they discuss what movies they're excited to see in the future. In the Ice Breaker Joe and Brandi talk about what gives them energy and what sucks energy out of them. Then in the Falafeling they discuss chapter 10 of Marcus Borg's book The Heart of Christianity in which they talk about why spiritual practices are important or unimportant. Joe brings the first of a monthly bonus episode in which he takes us through a musical journey through history. This month he brings you Johnny Cash's music during his tenure at American Recordings.

Nov 14, 2017

Joe and Brandi discuss future bonus episodes, a big decision Joe made regarding social media, they discuss movies they hate in the Ice Breaker, and then they get very corny and sentimental in the Falafeling when they discuss chapter 8 of Marcus Borg's book, The Heart of Christianity. All this and very little else in this week's episode.

Unfortunately Joe and Brandi couldn't record an episode so Joe is posting an episode of The Commentarians in which Joe and his friend Adam Thropay discuss Passion of the Christ. Enjoy

Oct 31, 2017

This week's topics include: Brandi's trip to Arizona, bars carrying too many IPAs, the #MeToo hashtag, the #HowIWillChange hashtag, how Joe can make the space he lives in more feminist, what questions they each struggle with, whether the Bible is political, how both liberals and conservatives are motivated by fear, how voting for Hillary Clinton was an immoral choice, how the Democratic party is a corporate party and not a progressive party, and of course Joe thinking about buying a Vespa. All this and very little else in this weeks episode.

Oct 24, 2017

Joe and Brandi have a lot to talk about. Joe starts out talking about how he called the head of a record label just to see if he could, then Brandi talks about how busy she's been over the last couple of weeks. Then in the Fellowship Brandi talks about a podcast that she's been loving lately, "Bad Christian Podcast", because she's seen them grow more progressive as time's gone by. Then in the Ice Breaker they discuss their favorite piece of technology, and of course finally the get into The Heart of Christianity chapter 6 where they talk about what it means to be Born Again which brings up a tone of discussions about being substitutionary atonement, what "dying to yourself" "Born Again" "Accepting Christ As Your Savior" and "Sin" mean. Lots of interesting discussions. All this and very little else, in this week's episode.

Brandi and Joe couldn't get together to record an episode this week, so Joe met up with Janelle, the Middle Sis from the Sippin' Sisters podcast at the Los Angeles Podcast Festival and discuss... well Feminism sort of. Every topic sort of swung towards women's struggle in television and the church. Hope you guys enjoy it. Joe and Brandi will be back next week. See ya then!

Oct 10, 2017

Joe and Brandi discuss last week's mass shooting and express their anger. This takes up most of the time in the intro and fellowship, so they go right into the Ice Breaker where they discuss what obscure shows they wish more people knew about, then finally they get into Falafeling where they discuss chapter five of Marcus Borg's book The Heart of Christianity in which they discuss Jesus' resurrection. All this and very little else in this week's episode.

Joe rambles on for way too long in between some of his favorite Tom Petty songs. Listen to a playlist curated by Joe in order to remember a great musician. Rock In Peace, Tom.

Oct 3, 2017

In this episode Brandi and Joe jumped on early to discuss what happened in Las Vegas and the death of Tom Petty. We may get in trouble for using Tom Petty music, but I'll deal with that if it comes up. Then the real episode starts. When the episode begins they discuss whether Joe should buy a Social D jacket, and in the fellowship they discuss how they prefer alcohol to pot, then they move into the ice breaker where they talk about how they take their coffee. Finally in the Falafeling they get into chapter 4 of Marcus Borg's book The Heart of Christianity. All this and very little else on this sad.

Brandi is in Los Angeles! So they two are able to record together outdoors. You will hear cars drive by and kids screaming in the background. Today they discuss what Brandi did in L.A., Joe talks about Skid Row and what hotel not to stay at in Downtown L.A., then Joe gives a very strange description of Darren Aronofsky's new film mother!, and then they move into the Ice Breaker where they discuss their favorite movies to watch on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Finally they get into the third chapter of Heart of Christianity by Marcus Borg where they discuss how the Bible should be interpreted. All this and very little else in this week's episode.

Joe and Brandi actually start the episode by accident this week by talk about stand up comedy. What makes a good stand up, can anyone be a stand up and how both Brandi and Joe should have been stand ups. That's just in the intro. In the Fellowship the two talk about Jim Carrey's crazy red carpet interview and talk about whether us not mattering is actually good news. Then in the Ice Breaker they discuss what qualities in a partner would be a total turn off. Finally in the Falafeling they discuss the second chapter of Marcus Borg's book The Heart of Christianity and talk about faith, how we should view the Bible, whether God actually wants our total devotion, and of course they end by discussing whether an infinate being that we can't even understand or grasp can fit into a tiny box that we totally understand. All this and very little else in this week's episode.

An introduction to Joe's new podcast The Commentarians. Joe talks about what the show is, how it'll work. when it begins and who it's for. Listen and become a Commentarian.

Sep 12, 2017

Joe and Brandi set a record for the most cuss words bleeped in a single episode! Topics discussed are can a Christian Mystic not be progressive, the president rolling back DACA (Mother F***ing, piece of s***, a**hole. F*** that a**hole piece of s***!), how Clinton's election loss was her fault and the DNC's fault and no one else's, how voting for the lesser of two evils is immoral disgusting and unChrist-like, The Nashville Statement, and Joel Olsteen. Then in the Ice Breaker they discuss what they'd like to devote more time too, and finally they get into the main discussion about chapter 1 of The Heart of Christianity by Marcus Borg where they discuss how Joe finds some progressive Christians very intolerant towards all evangelicals, what bridges the gap between Evangelical Christians and Progressive Christians, and then they get into a crazy talk about a Janga Puzzle analogy. All this and very little else in this week's episode.

Brandi's relationship became Facebook official this week! It's not a big deal, they've been official for a while outside of Facebook, but this starts them off on a conversation about when to make relationships FB official, as well as terrible relationships Brandi has been in, and what a giant a-hole Joe used to be. Then in the Fellowship Joe talks about potato chips hang overs and Brandi talks about the new Brand New record which she loves. Then in the Ice Breaker Joe discusses what song would be his anthem while Brandi tells us how much she hates cellphones in class. And of course in the Falafeling Joe and Brandi give a short introduction to the book they will be doing for the next several weeks The Heart of Christianity by Marcus Borg. All this and very little else in this week's episode.

Before they get into all that all three discuss 90's Christian music, Christian musicians who want to kill their wives, whether every Christian band are pretending to be Christian, and of course the song Spirit in the Sky. Then they discuss their favorite movies in the Ice Breaker then in the Falafeling section they discuss movies. All this and very little else in this week's episode.
